GU3 Training

Endurance sports are my passion. However, it wasn't always that way.
20 years ago I spent my free time playing golf at the country club, drinking beer and smoking. I was living what I thought was the dream.
After being diagnosed with a heart condition and my life desperately needing a change, I started triathlons.

Doug began his triathlon career in 2002, as the swimmer in a sprint relay almost not finishing.  Since then, he has dedicated himself to achieving the goal of qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Kona.  Throughout the journey, he experienced many setbacks including a broken femur and a 3rd degree AC shoulder separations.  He never gave up on the dream and with determination and persistence achieved the goal.  With the knowledge gained on his journey, Doug can help you.

Over the last 16 years, Doug has completed numerous races and triathlons including various sprint distances, a 50 mile trail race through mountains, and many full Ironman distance races.  In total, Doug has finished 17 Ironman distance races and numerous 70.3’s.  He is a 3 time Kona qualifier (2013, 2015, 2019); finishing 3rd in his age group (M50-54) at The North American Championships in Texas 2015 where he broke the 10 hour mark and posted the fastest run split in his age group (3:20).

In addition, to his Kona qualifications, Doug’s list of accomplishments include completing in the 2006 70.3 World Championships, and placing 2nd overall at both The Great Floridian 2014-15. In 2015, GFT was 2 weeks after competing in Kona. Doug was also 2nd Overall at Run Till You’re Bored 50K trail run in 2014.
Doug placed 7th at IM Chattanooga on 9/30/2018 then he placed 3rd at IM Louisville (10/14/18) two weeks later - posting the fasted run in the age group ( 3:19). This was the 2nd fastest in the 10 year history of the event for age 50-54, which earned him his 3rd trip to the Ironman World Championship.

His approach to balancing training with all the aspects of day to day life will take the guesswork out of the process.
He is constantly striving to better himself as an athlete, and as a role model to his family.

“All knowledge is experience, everything else is just information” - Albert Einstein

My mission is to guide you through this life-changing process and help you achieve your goals as an athlete, just like I did.
