Doug Guthrie
Doug’s Triathlon Journey & Coaching Philosophy
Doug’s triathlon journey began humbly in 2002 as the swimmer on a sprint relay team—barely making it to the finish. But that modest start lit a fire. Fueled by determination, Doug set his sights on qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Kona. It was a goal he chased for nearly a decade, navigating serious setbacks including a broken femur, a third-degree AC shoulder separation, and avascular necrosis. Still, he never gave up—and achieved his Kona dream nine years later.
Over the past 20+ years, Doug has raced extensively at nearly every level, completing:
29 Ironman-distance races
Multiple Boston Marathon qualifications
Numerous 70.3 events
9 Ironman World Championship finishes, with a personal best of 9:32 at Ironman Texas 2015—posting the fastest run split (3:20) in his age group
Additional career highlights include:
Ultraman Florida Finisher (2023)
2nd Place - Ironman Chattanooga (2023)
Course Record - IM Chattanooga 55–59 AG run split (3:36)
Guiding Adrienne Bunn to a World Record finish at the 2023 and 2025 Ironman World Championship (12:41, PCID Division)
2nd Overall - Great Floridian Triathlon (2014, 2015), with a record-setting performance in 2015 just two weeks after racing Kona
Florida State Masters Champion – Space Coast Marathon (2019, 3:10)
USA Triathlon National & Masters Champion – Great Floridian Triathlon (2020)
