Doug Guthrie


His triathlon career in 2002, as the swimmer in a sprint relay and barely finished.  Since then, he has dedicated himself to achieving the goal of qualifying for the Ironman World Championships in Kona.  Throughout the journey, Doug experienced many setbacks including a broken femur, a 3rd degree AC shoulder separation and Avascular Necrosis of the femur.  He never gave up on the dream and with determination and persistence achieved the goal 9 years after setting it.  With the knowledge gained on the journey, he can help you.

 Over the last 20+ years, Doug has completed numerous races and triathlons including various sprint distances, Rock Creek 50 miler in Chattanooga. In total, finishing 26 Ironman distance races and numerous 70.3’s.  Doug is a multiple time Boston qualifier and 6-time Kona qualifier (2013, 2015, 2019,2021,2022,2023); His Ironman PR was in Texas at The North American Championships in Texas 2015 of (9:32) and posted the fastest run split in the age group (3:20).

 In addition, to Kona qualifications, the list of accomplishments include completing Ultraman Florida 2023. 2nd Ironman Chattanooga 2023. The 2006 70.3 World Championships, and placing 2nd overall at both The Great Floridian 2014-15. In 2015, GFT was 2 weeks after competing in Kona. Doug holds the GFT course record for m50-54. He was Florida State Masters Champion Space Coast Marathon 2019 (3:10).
7th place at IM Chattanooga on 9/30/2018 then placed 3rd at IM Louisville (10/14/18) two weeks later - posting the fasted run in the age group (3:19). This was the 2nd fastest in the 10-year history of the event for age 50-54, which earned a 3rd trip to the Ironman World Championship. In 2021 he qualified for 2 Ironman World Championships in the same year Tulsa and Chattanooga. In Chattanooga posting the course record with the fastest run split in the 55-59 Age Group ever. (3:36). In 2023 Doug earned his 6th KQ with a 2nd at Chatty. At the Ironman World Championship 10/14/23 Doug guided Adrienne Bunn to a world record as the youngest ever to finish the IMWC as she crossed the finish line (12:41) First in the PCID Division. Doug has been coaching Adrienne since May 23’.

A 4th overall (1st AG) at the 2020 Great Floridian Triathlon (7th GFT finish) becoming USA Triathlon National Champion 55-59 and Masters Champion.

Doug is constantly striving to better himself as an athlete, and as a role model to the team and family.


He works with many first time Ironman. With his vast experience e is able to simplify the process with the athletes meeting them where they are in their individual journey to create a partnership to achieve success on race day.
